Registration Related Questions

Q: I’ve registered for the Competition, but didn’t receive any email. So how could I know if I registered successfully? And Where could I find my serial number?
A: The automatic e-mail box sometimes do fail to send out e-mails, we are sorry for that. If that happens, please be aware that the serial number for domestic participants is the registered mobile phone number, while for participants from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and abroad the serial number is the registered email address.

Design Related Questions

Q: Are most villagers in Gangtou Village the elderly and children? What do they do for a living and what is the local main industry?
A: Yes, most of the villagers are children and elderly. Agriculture is the main source of income for villagers and they plant mainly longans, plantains and other crops.


Q: Could we select multiple plots to design?
A: Yes, you could. There is no requirements on it.

Q: As the building north of Plot 01 has collapsed, could we consider renovate or reconstruct the building in Plot 01? Is there any restrictions on building height?
A: Yes, you could. And there is no restrictions on building height as long as the building fits well into the context.

Q: Do we need to keep the walls of the collapsed building as shown in photo of Plot 06? Could we design new buildings on the idled land?
A: The designer may decide to keep or demolish the walls, there is no restrictions on that. Besides, new buildings are allowed on the idled land.

Q: At present, are there three families living on Plot 10? Could we open a door and join the three into a big one? Or change the form of the three entrances?
A: Yes, there are 3 families living on it right now. And they can be considered as a whole. Currently, the houses are not occupied, so the form of the three entrances can be changed subject to the designer’s decision.

Q: For inconsistency among the plans, master plan, and satellite photo, which drawing should we take?
A: Please take the plans.

Q: What are reasons behind the Competition Committee’s decision to select these ten buildings? Do they have anything in common or are they typical?
A: These ten typical buildings we selected are just for reference since each of them varies in architectural form, characteristics and surrounding environment.

Q: Is there any requirement about the final submission?
A:Yes, there are.
Layout and Format
1)Please submit the drawing layout (300 dpi in resolution at least) in the version of jpg, and name the picture according to the content (such as XXX plan 1)
2)In the Word Document, all the information mentioned before should be written in English.
3)Submission Requirements: please submit one file in the format of zip or rar and the file size should be between 50mb-100mb. This file should contain four folders, they are:
(1)Drawing: Three drawings
(2)Identification: Scanned ID photo(s) , Student Card(s) or Passport(s)
(3)Text: Word Document
(4)Others: Scanned copy of Declaration of Original Work and other appended materials (Design Texts, videos, model etc.). Please make sure ALL team members sign on the Declaration of Original Work.
Transformation:
Candidates in domestic could transfer the final submission via e-mail, while candidates from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and abroad could upload the final submission to the Google drive and leave the link via e-mail. Thank you for your cooperation.

A:Yes, you can. The competition is open to young designers, artists, teams of teachers and students worldwide in the fields of planning, architecture, landscape, art and intelligent design. Meanwhile, interdisciplinary professionals and practitioners are also encouraged to participate.

Basic Information about Gangtou Village

A 600-year old traditional village in Huadong Town, Huadu District, Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, Gangtou Village covers a total land area of 2.83 km2. Facing the south, the village features a typical Cantonese dwelling layout that resembles a comb, which is known as “comb-style layout”. About 20,000m2 of ancient buildings of the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the Republican Period are well preserved in the village, including private houses, ancestral temples and ancient bridges, making it an “open-air museum of Lingnan architecture”.
